This was me in 1988 at age 34 when our first son was about 9 months old. So I know what it's like to be overweight. I struggled too for many years always being at least 25 to 30 lbs over what I am now. After I had Luke though I was almost 200 lbs at 5' 3" tall! It took me over two years to lose most of that weight and I tried the starvation dieting when I was working at the Diet Center in 1989 and hated ever minute of it! I vowed to never do another 'DIET' again. Because dieting doesn't work long term!
The best way I've lost weight and kept it off is by living a healthy lifestyle. Actually, after I eliminated gluten/wheat from my diet and alakalized my body the weight started coming off and has stayed off to this day. No I'm not perfect and yep sometimes I eat dessert and although I do exercise it's not as consistent as it used to be! But I do advocate some sort of physical activity especially as we age!
Personally I go to Curves for Women and love it and try and get there 3 to 4 days a week. It's especially good for women my age and older because we can go as slow or fast as we choose to depending on how our body feels that day! Ha! We have women in their 80's who are still actively participating at my Curves here in Lakeway and I'm so encouraged by them!
I've also been taking a product called Alkalete for over five years now. This is NOT one of those skinny diet pills that cause you not to eat. It's an alkalizing product that helps balance the PH of the body. I also take it for pain. Because now and then I do eat something like corn that causes pain in my body.. arg! Yep it's one of those addictions for me like sugar is! Ok ok, I'm working on it! In fact, recently I gave up corn during Lent season and the really bad neck pain I was having for months subsided... hmmm?
It's really important to eat and to eat the right kinds of foods at the right time. It’s not good to starve yourself all day and then eat a bunch of the wrong foods in the evening. And it’s not a good thing to take diet pills that make you feel full so you don’t eat much. Eating isn't causing the weight gain. It’s eating the wrong foods at the wrong time. Losign isn't the problem, it’s gaining weight back that's the problem. Most people go on these diets constantly and their body goes into yo yo mode. They go on diets constantly. What's most important is to reset and stabilize your metabolism so you keep the weight off long term. I know how to do this because I’ve walked the talk for years.
Train your mind to eat healthy... because it is very much a 'mind thing'. In our fast paced society this is very hard to do isn't it? Convenience and fast food is welll, so convenient and quick isn't it?! It's also very addicting and hard on the body and in time it will accumulate into illness and sometimes very serious auto-immune diseases like Fibromyalgia, MS, Chrons Disease, Diabetes, Dementia, Alzheimers, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), thyroid disease like hysimotos which I was diagnoised with and even cancer. Sure the medical profession will be quick to give your symptoms a name and there's always a drug for the disease they come up with to mask the symptoms. But does this actually heal your body? Not likely... most times it makes a person worse.
That's what happened to me! In fact, I got off all fast food in 2008. Was it easy? Well personally I had to hit rock bottom before complying! It was either that or end up in a nursing home or worse, DIE! I weened off all the prescription drugs too including Thyroid medication after taking it for over 32 years. Everything that was causing all the pain and my brain to malfunction was related to food.. go figure huh? Don't just take my word for it.. you did see my before photo in 2008 though right?
Here it is again to refresh your memory.. pretty remarkable transformation wouldn't you say?
