Thursday, 11/21/13 - What do I fuel my body with first thing in the AM?

60 Feels Great!  And The Journey Continues!

Here's more of what I've discovered this last week....

I’ve been listening to some of the expert health advisors online at ‘The Grain Of Truth:  The Gluten Summit’.   It has been hosted by TheDr.com and since it’s all online I’ve been able to listen to each speaker at my convenience and pause for breaks, whew!   I also ordered the digital version for my library to stay on top of my game!  The Gluten Summit was packed with life-changing information from 29 experts.  You can DOWNLOAD all the interviews for a mere $67, but you can also win the needed tests and a consultation with Dr. Tom if you order a package now.

Details are at - http://tinyurl.com/kc2nudx

All the information has been enlightening, encouraging, supportive, uplifting, inspiring and most importantly extremely educational!  So many people just aren’t getting the right information to best improve their life for the long haul.   And that’s exactly what I’m looking for personally, is to not only live longer but also as healthy as I can while here on this earth.  After all if we’re not healthy what good can we do for others?   I know what this is like from experience. Not to be able to spend quality time with family, friends, or even make a living because of being so sick all the time.

Who wants to live like that? Not me ever again!!  I love the new journey I'm on much better!

And before saying or thinking you don’t have any issues with gluten/wheat you just might want to check out what Dr. Thomas O’Bryan and some of the other health professionals are saying about long term effects.  He also mentions the ‘ice berg’ effect.  Symptoms may not be showing up now but are hidden and surface later when you least expect them.  And if you think eating healthy is too expensive, think again!  Being sick is much more expensive!

So what do I fuel my body with first thing in the AM?  And by the way, all these experts agree including this one!

Here’s one of the tips I learned listening online to the health summit from JJ Virgin author of ‘The Virgin Diet’ and I totally agree because I’ve been doing this for years myself and the protein shake I use is gluten free and has no artificial sweeteners.

(Here’s her bio in case you’re wondering where her expertise comes from) -

JJ Virgin is a board-certified nutrition specialist, a holistic nutrition specialist, and nutritional counselor. She is a graduate of the Institute of Functional Medicine’s “Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice” course, and is past president of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals. She is a member of the American Nutraceutical Association, and an adjunct professor at Bauman College. JJ is also a bestselling author, public speaker and media personality. Her 25 years in the health and fitness industry have earned JJ recognition as the go-to weight loss resistance expert who can unlock the door to fast and lasting fat loss through removing hidden food allergies and food sensitivities from the diet. She couples this with burst training to repeatedly get the results no one else can. JJ is the author of Six Weeks to Sleeveless and Sexy, The Virgin Diet and The Zero Tolerance Diet, and she is the co-star of the TLC reality series Freaky Eaters.

She has worked with performance athletes, CEOs, and A-list celebrities from around the world. JJ appeared for two years as the nutrition expert on the top-rated Dr. Phil Show and regularly appears in all major media channels including the TODAY Show, Access Hollywood, Women’s World, AOL’s You’ve Got…, New York Post, Washington Post, Reader’s Digest, Fitness, Shape, the Huffington Post Blog and NPR. JJ is a member of Mensa, a UCLA graduate and chronic student, having taken 40 graduate courses (and counting) from 6 different graduate and doctoral schools including Biomechanics from California State University Northridge, Sports Medicine from University of Miami, doctoral level courses in Exercise Physiology, Nutrition and Aging from USC, and Nutrition studies from University of Bridgeport.

Here's The Tip:  Your body shifts into fasting mode when you sleep.  Because you can’t store protein, getting it at breakfast becomes especially important to prevent muscle breakdown.  That’s why I want you to have a protein-rich breakfast within an hour of waking up.  I know: most people aren’t hungry that early, so a protein shake provides the perfect breakfast to curb cravings and hunger and keep you full and focused all morning.  I’ve had clients do nothing else and still get amazing results by ditching their sugar-bomb breakfast for a fast, easy protein shake.

So it’s best not to eat cereals and grains first thing in the morning.  Especially those that contain sugar, rice, or corn products.   I’m just the messenger and passing on what I’ve learned at the health summit from some of the top experts in their field.  I’m doing what is best for my own body.   Just in case anyone is interested in losing weight and keeping it off though they're better off not eating cereal/grains first in the morning.   I’m sticking with my good clean protein shake first thing in the AM with no artificial sweeteners which have been proven to actually make people gain weight.

“One of the most profitable businesses for food manufacturers is cereal.  It’s one of the only industries that can turn an inexpensive ingredient (i.e. processed grains) into a pricey commodity.  The R&D department for General Mills, called the Institute of Cereal Technology and located in Minneapolis, is home to hundreds of scientists whose sole purpose is to design new and tasty cereals that can command a high price and last for a long time on the shelves.”  From Dr. David Perlmutter, MD. ‘Grain Brain’, The Surprising Truth About Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar , Your Brain’s Silent Killers.

Another thing I do is check labels very carefully.  Especially after my recovery from illness five years ago.  Personally we have not used Sucralose/Splenda sweetener in over fifteen years in any products we buy. Why would anyone want to put something that is closer to DDT in their body?  Are people that uneducated or just blinded by money and don’t really care as long as they get their fix?  What about long term effects?    I never recommend products here at Gluten Free Lady that I don’t personally use myself.

It is my personal mission to become as educated as I can about what I put in my body and I’m going to pass that information along to anyone who’s listening.  So if that’s you I commend you for taking a stand for your own health!   Someone has to do it right? So it might as well be YOU!

Feeling generous today so giving away a Free copy of Dr. David Perlmutter's book 'Grain Brain'!  The Surprising Truth About Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar, Your Brain's Silent Killers.'
