Thursday, 10/31/13 - Yummy Food for the Holidays! What they don't know won't hurt um!

When I first started cooking gluten free about five years ago and taking dishes to gatherings, I would say this is gluten free then see people avoid my dish like the plague!  I started to wonder why would they do that?  Like the dish I brought to share was some sort of yucky card board tasting stuff? Which some gluten free used to be!  Not any more gang!    Now people are starting to come around asking for gluten free selections more and more and when they taste my food they are amazed that it's gluten free including baked goods like my famous Pecan Bars.

So yes I've become quite an avid home chef and absolutely love cooking and passionate about making food for other people!  Seeing their eyes bug out when they realize it's gluten free is priceless!

I’ve been making these gluten free Pecan Bars for a few years now every holiday and have made them twice so far in October.  My family and friends absolutely love and rave about how yummy they are and craving more, more!   I've used the same gluten free all purpose flour for five years and decided to try this new one I found recently online when researching recipes for pie crust.

I received this new gluten/wheat free flour blend from Simply Gluten-Free and can really tell the difference in the texture of the dough!  Flakier, easier to press out in the pan with this recipe which isn’t rolled out, and there’s not the usual aroma that my other GFree flour has when it’s wet.

These Pecan Bars are sooo easy to make even for rookies and were a big hit at my women’s group at our church last night!  Took some to the men's group too!  Hey really, I wouldn't lie to you!  Easy peezy!

Not boasting or anything but they were all raving about how awesomely good they tasted!  Some of the comments were.. mmmmmm...  as they went back for seconds and thirds.. and so chewy and flakey! Not too sticky sweet!  As they grabbed more to take home to family!  Some even recommended I sell um!   But not to us they yelled out!  Hint hint, make them for our next church pot luck on Nov. 17th!  LOL!

Suffice it to say, I’m really looking forward to using this flour in other recipes and finally making some pumpkin pies this holiday!  Yippee!  Real pie crust!  Maybe I'll even tackle my mom's really famous apple dumplings!  Of course she doesn't even use a recipe any more!
